Guardistallo and Casale Marittimo
This little town is situated on a hill in the hinterland of the Etruscan Coast between Montescudaio and Casale Marittimo, approximately 12 km from the seaside of Cecina Mare and 15 km from Marina di Bibbona.
Guardistallo was once a woodcutters’ town, whose treasure is now the Marchionneschi theatre built in 1880.
There are shops and some good restaurants in the town and small concerts and various events are held in the square during the summer.
About halfway along the road leading from Guardistallo to Cecina, you must make a stop at the enclosed convent with the idyllic name of "Valserena" to buy the nut liqueur or some cosmetic products made by the nuns.
Casale Marittimo – is old as Etruscan history and became a town around the year 1000.
The centre sits on a hill overlooking the beautiful countryside until the seaside of the Tuscan archipelago. The heart of the village, marvellously cared for and where time has almost stopped, invites you to wander around its alleys, past archways and terraces from which your gaze will be cast onto the surrounding hills. There are shops and typical restaurants in which you spoil yourself.
