Once upon a time (c’era una volta) there was a fireside (focolare) at the fair at the ‘Basse’… The building is in an isolated position and divided into two flats, “C’era una volta” and “Il Focolare”. The annual cattlemarket was held here and the housewife made food for everyone around the fireplace, at the end of the day, and then they danced until late in the evening out on the flagstone yard. Then back home, up the 2 kilometres of steep, uneven road to the town of Montescudaio. The enormous park with its shady trees invites you to rest or to play. The river Cecina is 200 metres away and the coast with its wonderful pine woods and wide beaches is 13 kilometres away. The countryside around the place is cultivated with corn and sunflower. Inside and particularly in the kitchens the old, typical tools that were used by the country folk in old times have been conserved, and give an idea of what life was like in those days. One of the best aspects of the whole place is the wonderfully spacious environment, both on the inside of the house and outside, in the open.
"C'era una volta"is for 6 people. It is on the first floor and is reached by an indoor stone staircase with an enchanting covered gallery, typical of the country houses in this area. It consists of a kitchen with a large fireplace, a living-room with furniture to sleep on, a double bedroom, a room with two single beds, bathroom with toilet and shower and a large terrace.
"Il Focolare"is for 8 people and is on two floors: on the ground floor there is the kitchen with a large fireplace, the bathroom with toilet and shower and a second shower. Upstairs there are two double bedrooms, two with two single beds each, a bathroom and a terrace. The heating is independent.
